Cambridge English – First, also known as First Certificate in English (FCE), is an upper-intermediate level qualification, at level B2 of the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the equivalent of an IELTS score 5.5 – 6.0. It proves you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study purposes.
We run three preparation courses for each examination throughout the year commencing in January, March and September.
Our courses last for a duration of up to 11 weeks leading to a final examination date. Students can join either FCE or CAE courses for a minimum of 2 weeks within the duration of the course.
Who is this course suitable for?
Our FCE preparation course is ideal if you want to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, engineering). FCE is also useful preparation if you are working towards higher level exams, such as CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).
What are the benefits? & Why study this course at CESC?
FCE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries, in particular tourism, where contact with English speakers is required.
Successful candidates have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and simple textbooks and articles.
Individuals wishing to take an examination at the end of their course are required to apply separately to take the examination at the Centre. On passing the exam you will receive a certificate awarded by Cambridge English ESOL, which is recognised by universities and employers throughout the world.
