CESC showcases Colchester on recent English UK Inward Mission
Colchester English Study Centre (CESC), participated in the English UK Spring Inward Mission on Tuesday, 19 May 2015.
The inward missions bring overseas educational travel agents to the UK so that they can gain direct experience of English language provision here and experience the local culture. Each mission focuses on a specific region of the UK and includes two workshops and at least five showcases. The East of England mission incudes workshops in London and Cambridge, and seven showcases in Bedford, Colchester, Bawdsey and Cambridge.
On Tuesday, representatives of English UK and agents from Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Morocco, were welcomed to Colchester English Study Centre for a showcase on the English language courses provided at the Centre and to promote Colchester as a destination. The agents participated in a local history activity where they received a presentation on the revolt by Boudicca against the Roman invasion in 60AD. They could also view local archaeological artefacts, try on some historical costumes and network with students to gain an insight into their own experiences of studying English language at CESC.
The opportunity provided them with a unique experience of Britain’s oldest recorded town that will be remembered for time to come.

IELTS 6.5: A Student Success Story
Osama Abdullah Hasan joined CESC on 23 January 2015 to study IELTS preparation. His goal was to achieve a score of 6.5 so that he could apply to the University of Essex in the UK to continue his academic career in Biology and Pharmacology.
Osama is overjoyed at having achieved this objective in a relatively short time-frame with the support of the teaching staff and specialised study programme at CESC. Right from the beginning, Osama was positive about the need to work really hard and learn as much English as possible.
Osama writes of his experience; “Two months ago, or a little more when I started studying at CESC, I was just able to answer two questions fluently; What is your name? and How old are you?! Honestly, at the time I had no quick nor proper answers for any further questions. However, today I probably can clearly express a written or spoken opinion about various subjects I might face, and happily get the IELTS score I need which is 6.5. Does anybody think it is impossible in this short period? Frankly, I had no magic wand to do that, instead I had a clear goal, it was to get the score and to improve my English and I have worked very hard to achieve it. Undoubtedly, I was well-organised and goal-oriented and knew exactly what I was looking for and I am proud to mention this.”
When Osama joined CESC, he was placed in a B1 level class, which is the equivalent of 4.5-5.5 on the IELTS scale. Our IELTS lessons specialise in helping students develop the necessary skills and techniques for success at the point of examination and Osama worked very hard to achieve his goal. We wish him every success in the future.

It comprised a cultural experience, new teaching ideas and language improvement for 42 German English language teachers working in Primary and Secondary Schools in Saxony-Anhalt.
“We have come back from Colchester highly motivated, full of enthusiasm and with best impressions. We enjoyed every part of the programme: the warm welcome, the perfect organization, the school visits, the guided tours of Colchester and the castle, the trip to Cambridge with Ian and the host families – perfectly chosen. We have learned more daily English, idioms, and could experience new teaching methods ourselves. We enjoyed Sally´s and Fiona´s lessons, the lunch at school every day or in the pub in Cambridge , you and your staff´s friendliness, flexibility, motivation, engagement; the pleasant atmosphere at school without stress, equipment and facilities at your school, …. And a real highlight was the farewell lunch at the Old Siege House, great, yummie, a good atmosphere.“ Ines Klausch – Course Coordinator (State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany)
